The Mind Of George Show

3 Steps To Becoming INDISTRACTABLE w/Nir Eyal

Episode Summary

Talks about what is distraction by the way. The opposite of distraction is not focused. The most dangerous form of distraction, literally how to create time management. Processes that are predicated on you having pain management to actually be successful.

Episode Notes

In today's episode, Nir Eyal and I challenge the self-help myth, emphasizing the importance of understanding and managing distractions. Contrary to common belief, I argue that external triggers are not the primary cause; rather, it's internal triggers like boredom or stress. I introduce the concept of traction, actions aligned with intentions, and distraction, actions deviating from intentions. To address distraction, I suggest the 10-minute rule, allowing indulgence after a delay.

Additionally, I advocate for self-compassion, emphasizing the impact of how we talk to ourselves. The talk underscores the significance of planning input (time and attention) rather than merely relying on to-do lists. Ultimately, the antidote to impulsiveness is forethought, leveraging our unique ability to foresee the future.
